For you that are not familiar with Ju-Jitsu
competition, here it is in brief. First, there are two types of competition, free-fighting
(kumite) and the Duo competition. The below clips are from the Duo
Competition.
The Duo Competition is a
prearranged self-defense routine with two contestants. There are four categories of
self-defense; gripping attacks, embracing and neck lock attacks, punches and kicks, and
weapons. There are five specific attacks in each category. The Referee draws from a set of
cards (with each of the attacks from each category) and randomly has each pair perform the
attack and defense. So each pair must memorize which attacks is in what category and the
proper attack and defense. Contestants are graded on a point scale from 1 to 10 by a panel
of judges. For more information, please refer to the JJIF Rules. Separate divisions are held for
Women, Men and Mixed pairs.
